FLAP INDICATOR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Who can install the Visual Instrument flap position indicator?

Any A and P mechanic or repair station can install this indicator in your aircraft.  The form 337 will have to be signed by an I.A. and a copy mailed to your local F.S.D.O.

How long does it take to install the Visual Instrument flap position indicator?

Installation should take about 2 hours.

I just received notice of Cessna service letter SEB00-9.  Does the Visual Instruments system accomplish the same?

Yes.  Our system replaces either the A.C. Spark Plug, the Stewart Warner or the Rochester systems with an easier to read display at a lower cost.

Why can I not label my old indicator “inoperative” and look over my shoulder to see what position my flaps are in?

FAR Part 91.213 allows you to operate an airplane with some inoperative instruments and equipment.  Along with other instruments the flap position indicator is a required instrument and cannot be labeled “inoperative”.

FAR 91.213 and CAR 3.353

Will I need any other parts to complete the system?

No.  All the parts required are in the kit, the transmitter, the display assembly, the hardware kit and all the instructions and STC paperwork.

Is there any airframe modification required to install this system?

No, just remove the old Transmitter and Indicator and replace with the Visual Instruments Transmitter and Display.

Can I replace just the indicator in my airplane?

No.  Our indicator is not compatible with any of the Cessna transmitters.

When Cessna introduced the electric flap system the first indicators were manufactured by A.C. Spark Plug.  Cessna later (around 1965) switched to an indicating system manufactured by Stewart Warner.  These two systems were not compatible with each other (see Cessna service letter SE70-12 dated May 28 1970) and Cessna recommended replacing both the transmitter and indicator at the same time.  Current replacement parts are now manufactured a third company named Rochester which are also not compatible with the earlier systems (see Cessna service letter SEB00-9 dated Nov 6 2000). THE COST FOR THESE ANALOG REPLACEMENT PARTS RUNS APROX $1,800.00 FROM CESSNAS AND THE WAIT TIME USUALLY RUNS ANYWHERE FROM 12 WEEKS TO 6 MONTHS.

VOLTAGE MONITOR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Why do I need a voltmeter when my aircraft already has an Ammeter?

In detecting and diagnosing electrical system problems voltmeters have many advantages over the factory-installed ammeters. They also indicate how much battery reserve is left after an alternator/generator failure.  For more information see differences between ammeters and voltmeters.

I noticed that Visual Instruments sells several different Voltage Monitors what is the difference between these different models?

Besides being FAA approved and built to PMA standards P/N 2000-26000 /12-volt model and P/N 2000-2650 / 24-volt models include automatic dimming. Theses models are also are more accurate than the low cost 86612-95010 model. They also have a switch on the back, which sets the display mode to either Dot or Bar graph mode. The unit is only FAA approved when the display is set to Dot mode.

How long will it take my mechanic to install the Voltage Monitor?

A good mechanic should be able to perform the installation in about an hour.  This includes making the logbook entries and filling out all the FAA paper work. When we developed this product we went to great lengths to make the installation simple and provide the necessary forms pre-filled out to make the process as quick and painless as possible.

On the Web pages, noticed several different orientations of the meter, some vertical mounted and some horizontal. How do I specify this when I order?

All of our voltage monitors are shipped with both face labels, so any Monitor can be installed in any orientation simply select the correct label at the time of installation.

What is the price of the Visual Instruments 12V and 24V Voltage Monitors?

All of our voltage monitors are priced at only $159.00 each plus shipping & handling.
